Rivers State Police Command has confirmed attacks on Security Operatives by unknown gunmen in Ikwerre local government area of the State. The Command said that 3 operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service were killed in the attack.
According to the Police, the gunmen attacked a Military checkpoint in Omagwa community as well as a roadblock put together by operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Isiokpo community Saturday night.
The gunmen opened fire on the Customs officers, killing 3 in the process. It was also learnt that some patrol vehicles belonging to the operatives were burnt.
Confirming the attack in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni said the Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
He however, said that the numbers of casualties can not be ascertained as the details of the incident were still very sketchy.
As of the time of filing this report, security operatives of the Nigeria Police Force has been deployed to the area in an attempt to bring normalcy and calm.
