Police officer allegedly negotiating extortion in viral video identified, arrested
The Police Command in Edo has arrested a constable, Victor Osabuohign, who was seen in a viral video circulated on the social media while allegedly engaging in an extortion conversation with a road user.
ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, the command’s Deputy Public Relations Officer, made the announcement on Friday in Benin.
Osabuohign was seen negotiating with a road user identified as Arc. Bolu in a viral video on Twitter.
Iwegbu stated that the officer was arrested, detained, and is currently being investigated.
He stated that the command has formed an ad hoc committee led by ACP James Chu, the command’s head of operations.
The committee’s deputy chairman, according to Iwegbu, is the command’s Provost Marshal, CSP Avanrenren Godwin.
According to the spokesperson, other operatives had previously been arrested for alleged official corruption and were being investigated.
She stated that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Abutu Yaro, has urged members of the public to file reports against erring command officers.
