Police officer arrested for armed robbery claims his colleagues conspired against him

James Ejeh, a dismissed Policeman charged with armed robbery, on Wednesday told an FCT high court that his former colleagues set him up.

According to reports, the Police alleged that Ejeh, and another dismissed Policemen, armed with guns and knives, robbed one Miss Christie Maker and her driver along Airport junction, and dispossessed them of their personal belongings and a Mazda 626 car.

It was learnt that the Police charged Ejeh and his accomplice, a dismissed cop, Simon Abraham, in 2017 with conspiracy and armed robbery.

But testifying in his defence, Ejeh told Justice Peter Kekemeke, that the armed robbery was a conspiracy against him by some of his former colleagues, adding that they set him up.

However, when asked by the prosecuting counsel, Kufreabasi Ebong, how possible it was for all 3 Police officers and 2 civilians who testified against him, were there to conspire and tell lies against him, he responded that it was not a new thing.

Ejeh said, “This is not a new thing, Policemen conspired against me because that is what Police have been doing.”

Meanwhile, his counsel, Mimidoo Anundu, told the court that the first defendant has closed his case. The second defendant’s counsel, Ocheme Adama, however, informed the court that he was ready for his defence.

After listening to the defence, Justice Kekemeke, adjourned the case until March 18, 2021, for the continuation of trial.
