Police operatives stop Student from committing suicide
What would have become a suicidal death and resulted in wild mourning was prevented yesterday in Calabar, the Cross Rivers State capital as men of the state Police Dragon Squad swiftly rescued a 400 student of the University of Calabar from the wee hand of death.
Reports say the final year philosophy student identified as Effiong Kingsley Paul, on an apparent suicidal mission, had climbed about one hundred feet stadium flush light pole and threatened to jump off, before the security operatives rescued him.
Eyewitnesses said after being rescued by the security men, the boy, who hails from Uyo, Obio Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, claimed that his intention was to draw government attention to the sorry state of the stadium facilities.
It was gathered that the student’s attempt to jump off the pole created a scene that drew the attention of hundreds of Calabar residents who rushed down, pleading with him not to jump.
Reports say it was amidst the pleading that the men of the Dragon Squad swung into action and forced him to come down from the pole.
As at the time of fielding this report, the student is said to have been taken to the police headquarters Diamond Hill Calabar, for questioning.
