The Acting Director-General (DG) of National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA), a professor of Microbiology and Biotechnology, has been apprehended by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), for allegedly defrauding the Federal Government of N400 million.
The Spokesperson of the ICPC, Mrs Azuka C. Ogugua, made this disclosure in a statement sent to CRIMECHANNELS on Tuesday.
She said that the monies which was claimed to be an intervention fund for the biotechnology agency was diverted into different private accounts.
She also said that the sum of money was shared with several other top management staff of the Agency.
Mrs Ogugua said that the commission will interrogate the Professor and ask him questions on how such a huge amount of money will just disappear under his watch.
In her final remarks, she said that investigation into the fraudulent activities of the Professor is still ongoing. She also said that the commission after investigation will take appropriate action.
