School Re-opening: Six conditions that must be met – FG

The Federal Government has listed conditions to be met by each school before reopening would be allowed.

The government explained that the conditions were put in place so as to protect students against coronavirus.

The Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, made the announcement.

Speaking on Tuesday, at the 2020 Policy Meeting on Admissions to Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja, the Minister said the Federal Government was looking to continue to ease the lockdown, which invariably will lead to the re-opening of school and other public areas. However, he urged the head of institutions to commence preparation.

He advised that preparation be made on time and promptly, and not when the announcement for schools to be finally opened is made.

Nwajiuba said all learning institutions must have hand-washing facilities; body temperature checks and body disinfectants at all entering points including the gates, hostels, classes, offices.

He also stated that all premises of each school “must be decontaminated”.

The Minister said all hands must be on deck so as to achieve the highest level of hygiene in compliance with the protocols of NCDC.

He also directed schools to ensure physical distancing in class sizes and meeting spaces.
