Sixteen [16] dead as armed bandits engage Nigerian Soldiers in heavy gun battle

No fewer than 15 bandits, armed with guns were killed during a fierce gun battle with them and operatives of the Nigeria Army in Anguwan Mallam, Kontagora local government area of Niger State.

CRIMECHANNELS gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday, at about 4pm, when some Soldiers sighted the bandits in the area.

According to the Soldiers, one of their colleague was killed during the shootout, and two others sustained minor injuries.

An eyewitness who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that the bandits numbering about 70 were on motorbikes and were said to be moving to another village when the Soldiers sighted them. He said that after the shootout, many bandits were feared killed.

“The presence of the Miilitary was what saved our community from the bandits. They came in their number on motorcycles and the people became scared because we don’t have what it takes to face them, ” he added.

“But many were killed, we discovered dead bodies even today in the morning in the bush. We found their sleeping kits and other materials belonging to them, ” he added.
