Teenage girl conspired with boyfriend, faked her own kidnapp over Mother’s pressure to read Medicine

The Police in Ekiti State have arrested a 16 years old girl identified as Abimbola Suluka, for allegedly faking her own kidnap in an attempt to raise money to push her acting career as against studying Medicine as demanded by her biological mother.

According to the Ekiti State Police Command, her boyfriend and 2 other persons who she conspired with was also arrested by the Police.

CRIMECHANNELS gathered that the information was disclosed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Abutu, in a statement on Saturday, June 19, 2021.

According to him, the suspects were arrested on Thursday, in a hotel located in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

It was gathered that they had used the Hotel as their secret spot to avoid getting caught. The boyfriend on behalf of his girlfriend demanded the sum of N500,000 to be paid as ransom. According to Abutu, the teenager conspired with 2 other friends of her boyfriend to carry out the kidnap scam.


The sister of the teenage girl worried that her sister hasn’t returned from school, called her phone number, and was immediately taken aback when a stranger picked the phone and demanded they pay 500,000 thousand if they wanted to see their love one alive.

It was learnt that she then went to report the case to the Police, and upon hearing the details, the Police tracked the number of the teenage girl which led them straight to one of the culprits.

The suspect then took the team of Police operatives to the Hostel where others were hiding, and the Police eventually arrested everyone involved in the scam.

Abutu further said, “During interrogation, Suluka Abimbola confessed to the crime as well as Oluwaseun Daniel Olajide and Adefolaju Caleb. Abimbola said she decided to conspire with the other suspects to do that in order to raise money from her family members to enable her relocate from Ekiti State since her mother insisted that she go through medical field as against her dream of becoming an actress.”

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti, Tunde Mobayo ordered the Police to conduct a thorough investigation on the matter, he further said that the suspects will be charged to court after investigations is completed.
