TENSION as residents plan mass protest to force Police to release killers of Deborah

Indications emerged late on Friday that residents of Sokoto State have been urged to troop out en massse today to massively protest the arrest of two suspects allegedly involved in the murder of a female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, identified as Deborah Samuel, over alleged blasphemy on Thursday morning.

The nation was stunned on Tuesday when a video surfaced online show how the deceased student was violently stoned to death and later set ablaze by angry mob, who were mostly students of the college.

As the video attract widespread criticism, the State Police Command said it has arrested two suspects in connection with the incident and taken them into its custody.

But according to the LEADERSHIP newspaper, a circular was issued to Muslim residents in the state on Friday asking them to come out on Saturday (today) to protest the arrest of the suspected killers of the student.

The circular reportedly written in Hausa was translated as saying:
“We’re inviting Muslims in Sokoto to come and help them rescue our brothers that were arrested because they were defending Islam and uplifting prophet Muhammad S.A.W,” the leaflet read.

According leaflet, Gawon Mama Roundabout in Sokoto is the meeting point at 9am.
