Three people killed as deadly street gangs clash during wedding celebration

A clash between rival gangs in Darmanawa quarters, Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano, resulted in the deaths of at least three individuals.

The altercation began during a Gangi event organized by 59-year-old Muhammad Barde, to celebrate his children’s wedding.

Thugs who exploited the gathering, engaged in a supremacy battle armed with dangerous weapons, prompting a swift police response to disperse them.


The Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, SP Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the incident, said the police responded to a distressed call and dispersed the armed hoodlums.

However, despite initial intervention, the confrontation persisted, leading to fatalities including 23-year-old Sadiq Abdulkadir, and 22-year-old Muhammad Sani, from different quarters, along with 18-year-old Sadiq Abdullahi, who succumbed to bullet wounds during police intervention.

The Kano Police Commissioner, Usaini Gumel, ordered the immediate arrest of the event organiser and two others, initiating investigations into the incident.
