Twenty-one [21] people killed, forty kidnapped as gunmen on motorcycles invade communities

In a fresh attack on Shiroro communities in Niger state, no fewer than 40 people have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits.

CRIMECHANNELS gathered that the attack, which happened on Tuesday, February 2, also saw 21 people killed as about 100 gunmen on motorcycles stormed the communities.

It was learnt that the incident occurred at Kurege, Sabon Gida, Sararai and Rafin Kanya villages of Shiroro local government area.

An eyewitness who spoke to newsmen lamented the continuous attack by bandits. He said the bandits may take over the affected communities if the government does not take a solid measure in putting an end to their onslaught.

Reacting to the incident, the Secretary to the Niger state government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, said the bandit attack the 4 communities in the early hours of Tuesday, he however denied knowledge of the actual number of casualties.

Matane maintained that the Niger state government is doing everything possible within its powers to address the problem of insecurity in the state.
