Two fake Soldiers, others arrested as Police operatives storm criminals hideout

The Delta State police command has explained some of the recent breakthrough it has had in its bid to rid the state of all forms of criminality.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said operatives of the command recently arrested some suspected criminals and fake military men and also recovered many weapons from them.

The state PPRO explained that “On March 12, 2023, at 9.00 am, operatives of Eagle-Net Special Squad, while on intensive Aberdeen system of patrol, sighted a tricycle with Reg. No. RRU 773 QK conveying three male occupants.”

He said the tricycle was intercepted and subjected to a search, during which a bag containing rice in the tricycle was thoroughly searched.

Edafe further disclosed that three locally made guns and one live cartridge, which were concealed in the bag of rice were recovered.

He said that two of the suspects took to their heels and escaped into the bush, abandoning the tricycle, and the rider identified as Ahmed Umaru, a 26 yr-old native of Ayingba Local Government Area of Kogi state.

“The tricycle rider was arrested, and the exhibit recovered. Efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects are ongoing,” Edafe said.

In another development, Edafe said the Command received information about a syndicate in Asaba that is planning to cause mayhem in the state.

He said the suspects disguised as military personnel to deceive their unsuspecting victims.

According to the PPRO, “The state Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, detailed a combined team from the department of operations “COBRA 11” comprising operatives from the response squad, Raiders Squad, and operations department who embarked on an intelligence-led operation, adding that on March 12, 2023, at about 6.30 am, the team stormed their hideout around Okwe Axis Asaba, Oshimili South LGA of the State and arrested Mike Okon a 27yr-old man and Wilson Sunday, 24, both from Cross-River state.

“When the search was conducted on them, an army camouflage uniform, a pair of black jungle boot were recovered from Okon, while three green berets, one black beret were recovered from Wilson,” the police spokesperson added.
