University undergraduate student arrested with gun; 2 pieces of live ammunition

The Imo State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old student of the Imo state University (IMSU), Victor Onyeme for engaging in cultism.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of Imo State, Orlando Ikeokwu, CRIMECHANNELS gathered that the suspect was arrested by Police operatives attached to the Shell Camp Division of the Command.

Orlando revealed that a locally-made pistol and 2 pieces of live ammunition were recovered from the suspect upon arrest.

The statement reads, “On May 9, while on crime prevention and intensive patrol, operatives of the Divisional Police Headquarters, Shell Camp, Owerri, intercepted one Onyeme Victor, 20, a native of Umuguma, Owerri West LGA.”

“He is studying Mechanical Engineering at the Imo State University. Upon a physical search on him, a locally-made pistol and two pieces of live ammunition were recovered from him.”

“He confessed to being the owner and stated that he uses the gun for his personal protection. Investigation is still ongoing.”

The Police spokesperson added that the suspect would be arraigned in court as soon as court resumes.
