Unknown gunmen attack Government Secretariat, set buildings on fire

Tragedy struck at the Nnewi South Local Government Area in Anambra State on Thursday as unknown gunmen set the LGA secretariat on fire.

It is yet to be ascertained if anyone died or was injured during the incident, but the State Police Command says “It is a suspected case of arson”.

The command spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, told newsmen that the information “is still sketchy”.

The spokesman added that more operatives had been deployed to the area and operatives of the Fire Service have also been contacted.

The burning is suspected to have been carried out by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In January, gunmen stormed a burial ceremony in Ezinifitte, Nnewi South LGA. The attack left some people dead.
