Prison inmates at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre have set the facility ablaze, in a bid to escape, just as Soldiers and Policemen have been stationed to thwart the operation.

An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous said, “I can see them from my balcony at the moment. Soldiers and policemen have arrived. I saw prisoners throwing stones and I saw fire.”
“A lot of the prison officials have gathered at the entrance of the prison while some of the inmates have retreated.”
Police spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed the incident to newsmen. He said, “Yes, there is fire outbreak there but we are investigating and our men are on the ground with fire fighters.”
“Area Commander, Area A and Commnader MOPOL 2 Keffi road VI and men are there. No cause for alarm.”
Meanwhile, Spokesman for the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, in Lagos, Rotimi Oladokun said there was no cause for alarm, adding that a statement would be issued soon.
