Vehicles, buildings set on fire as five suspected armed men invade Monarch’s Palace

Unknown gunmen numbering about 5 on Friday, attacked the Palace of the Traditional Ruler in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue. According to reports, the gunmen destroyed several properties including vehicles and house worth millions of naira.

CRIMECHANNELS learnt that the gunmen stormed the residence of the kindred head of Jor Fada, Zaki Terhile Atser whose Palace is located at No 36 Jooji Kyado street, Gboko East, Benue State.

Narrating what happened, younger relative to the Monarch, Robert Nomishu said, “the gunmen, about 5 of them stormed the Palace with sophisticated guns, axes and machetes at about 1:45am on Friday searching for the traditional ruler who had traveled out of town for the burial of one of his relations.”

“They destroyed several properties in the compound. They broke the windscreens of some vehicles parked inside, they broke the windows. They were very destructive, ” he added.

He however, said that no lives was taken away in the incident that occurred that very faithful day.


“I thank God, they didn’t kill anyone. They just came, broke things, and fled the scene, ” he said.

Meanwhile, the Monarch, Chief Atser who is currently taking refuge at an undisclosed location with his family said the matter had since been reported to the Police.

Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of Benue state, DSP Catherine Anene, said that the matter is currently under investigation.
